The International Association of Families and People Affected by Lipodystrophies AELIP, is already working to make one of the most ambitious projects of this 2020 a reality.
It is the translation into English and Portuguese of the diagnosis and treatment guides for rare lipodystrophies and the nutritional guide for lipodystrophies.
These guides are intended to help endocrinologists, pediatricians and other specialists and primary care physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of this group of rare diseases that are lipodystrophies as well as recommend and guide the nutritional process both families and those affected by lipodystrophy.
The current guides are the result of the work of the Lipodystrophy Unit of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Santiago management, which has been working in this field for more than fifteen years. The unit is currently part of the CSUR of congenital metabolic diseases in Santiago and receives patients from all over Spain. This unit pioneered the use of human recombinant leptin in Spain to treat people affected by lipodystrophies.
VERY VALUABLE DOCUMENTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL FIELD
AELIP highlighted the importance and usefulness of the guides so that health professionals have a document with precise information to facilitate the diagnosis of lipodystrophies and to familiarise themselves with the main signs of these rare pathologies. Likewise, the fact that these valuable guides are available in 3 different languages will allow many families and affected people to have them in their native languages.
Taking up again the international perspective, the president of AELIP Naca Pérez de Tudela wants to emphasize that the translation of the guides will allow our entity to participate in congresses, medical and patient meetings of international scope where this material will play a fundamental role in the diffusion and knowledge about the pathology.
