Successful first day of the 9th International Lipodystrophy Symposium

The International Association of Families and Persons Affected by Lipodystrophies (AELIP) is celebrating the ninth edition of the 'INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON LIPODYSTROPHIES' in collaboration with, among others, the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (FEDER), the European Alliance of Patients' Associations with Rare Diseases (EURORDIS) and the Iberoamerican Alliance for Rare Diseases (ALIBER), 

The 9th edition of the International Symposium on Lipodystrophies started at 16:00h yesterday 21 October, with the participation of David Araujo Vilar, President of the European Consortium for Lipodystrophies (ECLIP), Alba Ancochea Díaz, Member of the ADVOCACY COUNCIL of RDI, EURORDIS Board Member and Executive Director of the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (FEDER), and Juan Carrión Tudela, President of the European Committee for Lipodystrophies (ECLIP). Juan Carrión Tudela, President of the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (FEDER) and of the Ibero-American Alliance for Rare Diseases (ALIBER) and Naca Eulalia Pérez de Tudela Cánovas, President of the International Association of Families and People Affected by Lipodystrophies AELIP. 

David Araujo, wanted to emphasize the importance of continuing to develop these training meetings to increase knowledge and raise awareness of these rare pathologies to both society and health professionals and also wanted to thank all the speakers who participated in the meeting making it an extraordinary scientific day. 

Alba Ancochea Díaz, Member of the ADVOCACY COUNCIL of RDI, Member of the EURORDIS Board of Directors and Executive Director of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER) highlighted the networking that AELIP has been developing since its creation in 2012 and the consolidated international presence of the organisation, which has its own web domains in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Portugal. 

Along the same lines, Juan Carrión Tudela, President of the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (FEDER) wanted to publicly congratulate the organisation and the organising committee for the more than 15 professionals and leading researchers participating in the programme and for consolidating a training day that already has 9 editions in total. 

Finally, Naca Eulalia Pérez de Tudela Cánovas, President of the International Association of Relatives and Affected of Lipodystrophies AELIP, publicly thanked researchers, reference professionals, students, families, affected people, alliances and sponsors for the possibility of coinciding in the same meeting and supporting Infrequent Lipodystrophies from different perspectives. She also wanted to highlight the more than 450 participants that are meeting in this virtual meeting that also has simultaneous interpreting English-Spanish and Portuguese. 

The simultaneous interpretation has allowed more than 20 countries, including Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia and Chile from Latin America and Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Russia and Greece from Europe, as well as Turkey and the USA to be represented in this international forum which, as in the previous edition and as a preventive measure, is being held ONLINE due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
