AELIP will produce more than 200 diagnostic and treatment guides for Lipodystrophies in English and Portuguese to be sent to its international delegations

The International Association of Relatives and Affected by Lipodystrophies AELIP, has printed more than 200 Practical Guides for the diagnosis and treatment of rare lipodystrophies in English and Portuguese to send to its international delegations. These guides are an update of the Spanish edition that the organisation already had in the past.

This training material is intended to help endocrinologists, paediatricians and other specialists and primary care physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of this group of rare and ultra-rare pathologies that are the infrequent lipodystrophies.

The current guidelines are the result of the work of the Lipodystrophies Unit of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Santiago hospital, which has been working in this field for more than fifteen years. The unit is currently part of the CSUR for congenital metabolic diseases in Santiago and receives patients from all over Spain. This unit pioneered the use of recombinant human leptin in Spain to treat lipodystrophies.

The fact that these valuable guidelines are now available in English will allow many families and affected individuals to make them available in their native languages.

Taking up the international perspective, the president of AELIP Naca Pérez de Tudela wants to emphasize that the guide will allow AELIP to participate in international congresses, medical and patient meetings where this material will play a fundamental role in the diffusion and knowledge about the pathology.
