Furthermore,
supporters are encouraged to get involved by uploading photos of themselves to
social media, making an L shape with their hand with the hashtags #care4lipodistrophy2019
and #AELIP2019.
Today
marks the launch of the World Lipodystrophy Day campaign, organised by the
International Association of Families and People Affected by Lipodystrophy,
which aims to raise awareness of lipodystrophy diseases through events held on
31st March.
The
campaign will comprise a variety of initiatives which aim to raise awareness
about the reality of people who live with lipodystrophies, activities to make
these disorders more visible on a global level, and as the main event, it will
be supported by all organisations which work in the field of lipodystrophy
around the world. In this way we have coordinated all efforts and will launch a
joint message to the whole world: “Care about Lipodystrophy”.
Notably
among these activities is the reading of the World Lipodystrophy Day Manifesto
at municipal plenaries in several town and city councils: Totana, Murcia, Mula,
Cartagena, Mahon, Vigo and Huelva. Public spaces will also be lit up with
turquoise lights.
We
are also encouraging everyone who wishes to support the event to upload photos
of themselves making the letter L (with their index finger and thumb) to social
media with the hashtag #Care4lipodystrophy2019 and #AELIP2019.Likewise, from
today, and every day until the 31st March, we will be uploading an article from
the World Lipodystrophy Day Manifesto, a list of rules outlining the principal rights and needs of people
affected by these diseases.
AELIP
has also organised other activities to give visibility to lipodystrophies:
awareness talks in schools in Totana and Mula, members of the association
attending a five-a-side football match between ElPozo Murcia FS and Fútbol
Emotion Zaragoza in the Palacio de
los Deportes de Murcia (Murcia Sports Palace) on 30th March, as well as a
attending a basketball game, where UCAM
CB Murcia will play against Baskonia
on 7th April.
Other
activities planned include a solidarity march organised by the Asociación de Comerciantes de Mula (Mula
Trade Association) on 6th April in Mula itself, a social evening for those
affected by lipodystrophies in Totana on 13th April, and a Solidarity Football
Tournament Deitana Urbs on the 27th
April, also in Totana.
