The Portuguese delegation of the International Association of Relatives and People Affected by Lipodystrophy (AELIP) held the First Symposium on Lipodystrophy in Portugal from January 16 to 18 in the city of Porto.
This I Symposium of Lipodystrophy promoted by the delegate of AELIP in Portugal, Maria Fernanda de Amorim, has been organized in collaboration with the mother-child center do norte and the professional team of the Unit of thyroid and metabolic diseases UETEM of the Hospital Complex of the University of Santiago de Compostela directed by the professor of medicine David Araujo-Vilar.
The meeting included a round table of experts in lipodystrophies moderated by Naca Eulalia Pérez de Tudela Cánovas, president of the AELIP, David Araujo-Vilar, professor of Medicine at the University of Santiago de Compostela and Hermelinda Santos, doctor at the Centro Materno Infantil do Norte of the Hospital Complex in Porto. The families were able to ask the professionals all their doubts and concerns to the health professionals.
On the other hand, Juan Carrión Tudela, Director of the AELIP explained to all the assistants the social-health resources of the AELIP and the AELIP Portugal Delegation, making them available to all the families and people affected by a lipodystrophy in Portugal
To close the day, a Social Workshop was organized by José Jerez Ruiz, Social Assistant of the AELIP and María Fernanda de Amorin, Delegate of the AELIP in Portugal, which allowed to study the needs of the affected people and families who attended the symposium, allowing them to know first hand the difficulties and needs.
