The second scientific round table of the IX International Symposium on Lipodystrophies entitled "Pathogenic mechanisms of Lipodystrophies" was moderated by Dr Daniel Tews.
The first of the presentations took us directly to Italy and dealt with autoimmunity in lipodystrophic syndromes. Associate Professor of Endocrinology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pisa, Italy.
The symposium then travelled to Spain to hear the presentation "Unveiling the pathogenic mechanism of autoantibodies against Perilipin-1 in patients with acquired generalised lipodystrophy". The speaker was Dr. Fernando Corvillo , member of the AELIP advisory committee and PhD, Complement Research Group, Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria del Hospital La Paz. Research (IdiPAZ), Hospital Universitario La Paz, Madrid, Spain.
The conference then moved on to Germany. Daniel Tews, Principal Investigator, Division of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, University Medical Centre Ulm, Germany gave his presentation "Lipodystrophy as a late effect after stem cell transplantation".
Finally, the symposium returned to Spain to learn about the latest updates on the PELD transgenic murine model. A presentation developed by Silvia Cobelo, PhD student of the Santiago de Compostela group (Unidad de Enfermedades tiroideas e metabólicas, UETEM).
