The International Association of Families and People Affected by Lipodystrophies AELIP took advantage of the framework of the 10th ALIBER Ibero-American Meeting on Rare Diseases to meet with Health Professionals from Costa Rica.
This meeting was an opportunity for these professionals to learn first-hand about the portfolio of services that AELIP offers to families and people affected by Lipodystrophies anywhere in the world, as well as to provide them with the training material on Lipodystrophies that the organisation has at its disposal.
AELIP currently has a guide for medical professionals for a reliable diagnostic approach to the more than 40 subtypes of lipodystrophies described to date. It also aims to provide a therapeutic approach to the complications associated with these disorders.
It also includes a Manual aimed at covering the information needs when it comes to an adequate diet, aimed at patients and family members who live with lipodystrophy. It is a nutritional guide adapted to the comorbidities associated with lipodystrophy and at the same time in accordance with the dietary habits and culinary customs of the different countries.
Finally, Lipo-DDX is available as an App to help in the diagnosis of lipodystrophies. Aimed at medical professionals, Lipo-DDDx allows to better characterise the different subtypes of lipodystrophy, based on a personal algorithm. This novel tool was designed by Dr. David Araujo-Vilar, professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
All these documents are available on the aelip website and can be downloaded from the following link https://www.aelip.es/material-formativo-lipodistrofias.asp
The president of AELIP, Naca Pérez de Tudela, valued very positively to be present at the high level forum in order to make the organization known in the organizing country and to meet other health professionals working in the field of Lipodystrophies in Latin America.
